  • 05:51 Lyrics Melodramatize Me

Heavy are the highs and lows, keeping me  afloat... we arrive on angles

Wings to be clipped soon, splitting a heart in two... we cry on shoulders

Faith won’t take me higher than grace

It won’t take me higher then waste

It’s a ripe & rotten place to own your name

Steady all the colors that blur, speaking the words that slur mechanically

Riding on leap of haste, choking up all the space to cast as failure

    Oh...

    Will I choose another road?

    Will I choose another robe?

  • 03:51 Lyrics Black Lung

    a deity obstructed me

Stalking where rhymes once brought my line

Your Blue heart, My black lung

With a left hand heaven with fall

    An ocean seized, revved jealously

That sent us where we tread to dare

Your Blue heart, My black Lung

  • 04:49 Lyrics No Charm 2 a Beat

I'd stay awake to hear the torture

I'd take that line to live in fiction

And follow shadows, no longer footsteps

Where branches fall, no longer breathing

crash of thunders tear me old

    Underbelly swallows me whole

I'd bury love to have no blindness

I'd find that place to hide from god

And live a monster, no longer needing

Where creatures cry, no longer cold

  • 03:06 Lyrics Eulogy

I heard the lying in your choice

I heard the laughing in your voice

I saw the jottings on your wall

Of the wounds you want to remember... I want to remember

I felt the stagger in your feet

I smelled desire in your need

You cut the markings in my wrists

That’s bleeds as good intention... I want to remember

NOTES
ALBUM REVIEW:

Black Lung
There’s a innocuous but ominous metronome tone that guides this entire track that I just love. It kept me riveted. It’s this element of consistency that underscores the gritty scuzzy echo that builds to the vocal layering on the chorus. There’s an intensity here that stays steady but builds emotionally throughout the song. Just when I get lost in your vocals (which I love doing) the song kind of gently lets me down before building to a sweet melancholy in the reprise that I love. It’s a really catchy song that doesn’t veer into sing-songy territory. My favorite part is the feeling of a fuse or electric volt that fizzles you out to the end of the song. It’s really a dynamic feeling piece that never lets you get truly comfortable.

No Charm 2 A Beat
The string sounds in this one are STUNNING. I feel like I’m making a dramatic entrance into a lush underworld ball. In fact, the entire song reminds me of my favorite scene from one of my favorite novels, The Master and Margarita. In chapter 23, Margarita, the heroine, is the guest of honor at a black-tie gathering of the high-class undead hosted by Satan in the heart of post-Revolution Moscow. I just picture all of these damned souls swirling to these lush vocals and I’m kind of freaking out. This is so fucking Victorian high-goth horror and I love every second of it. It might be my new favorite Eric Vain jam. I’m simply blown away by this one. I can imagine you’ll have a blast playing and experimenting with this one live and I can’t wait to hear it.

Melodramatize Me
There’s such a pretty sadness in this piece. I hear a resigned melancholy that weaves through the surface of the song -- descending, ascending, bobbing, and interlocking. It’s like a more thoughtful and measured Sisters of Mercy vibe. There’s a tension at play in the depth of the composition that really keeps the melody moving. It’s a deceptively technical song that’s so fucking beautiful. Your voice and its range is truly stunning to me. By the end, this is sad and sparkly without turning emo or wallowing.

Eulogy
Stark and appropriately mournful. The aching on this one is so real and relatable that I got a little teared up listening to it. I don’t hear anger here or even resignation - just an honest, gut-wrenching emotional reckoning. It’s just as much of a tribute to lessons learned as an eulogy of things lost.
